Daniel began writing some new ideas in August 2017, and after Daniel and Sara's project went on hiatus in October, he proceeded to slowly develop them to songs.
Originally intended to be featured on an EP with three other songs which were recorded in the summer of 2018, the other songs were put aside (for the time being), and it was decided that "Freudian Slip" would be released as a stand-alone single.
Inspired by his attempts at polyrhythms and polymetres on Daniel and Sara's latest project, 'Channeling', he dove deeper into it during the relative 'studio-silence' of the first half of 2018, practicing the drums more often.
"Freudian Slip, A Tongue and Its Tip" was written in May-June 2018, and recorded between July and December 2018, with some of his frequent collaborators, including Sara, featured on it.
lyrics
Most of the time I need only simple things,
a seat by the window and some silence, you know...
If you must disturb these hands at work,
think hard and well how to approach.
Life is brief, ladybug,
and yes, all of this obligatory honesty makes me uncomfortable,
consciously tied,
these hands are failing...
All the kids say,
"Let's not indulge in cynicism and folk tales",
but we're all permanents for now,
might as well live it up.
In between fits of nostalgia,
think hard and well how to reproach!
Life is finite, ladybug!
and still, all of this auxiliary nonsense is my cover and shield,
consciously tied,
these hands are failing us...
Shostakovich on Pravda,
eccentrics on high chairs...

The Folk duo of composer Daniel Goldstein (b. 1999) and violist Sara Umansky (b. 2001).
Their songs,
influenced by classical music, as well as by The Decemberists and Roy Harper, and employ lush orchestrations, are each like a basket of homemade baked goods: comforting and made with love for appreciating stomachs... or, well, ears.
